Portrait of a Peony
Peony and Passion
It’s peony season – that truly divine time of year when the peony fields come alive and for a few short months our lives and homes are filled with the most joyous of flowers.
There are a few theories around the origin of the name, Peony. From coquettish nymphs to wounded Greek gods and even an angry Chinese empress, one thing can be agreed upon. The peony is loved the world over – and with good reason! With their lush petals, delicately fragrant scent and intriguing form, the peony is the perfect flirt.
Behind the Scenes
While our buckets are brimming with fresh peonies, seasonal flowers at their very best, owner Leanne has been keeping a not-so-secret talent in plain sight! Next time you call into Victoria Florists, look beyond the flowers and take in the walls. More than a talented florist, Leanne is also a gifted artist and the paintings on the walls are just some of her works! Aptly, one is a portrait of a peony, a dreamy blushing pink that encapsulates the timeless qualities of one of our favourite flowers.
The other painting currently on exhibit is a stunning protea, featuring Leanne’s signature pink, the delicate shades offset by the architectural structure of the flower itself. If you like the peony and the protea, and if you’re really lucky, there are a few more paintings in Leanne’s private office. A prolific painter when she can find the time, Leanne might just bring them out if you ask nicely…
Daisy Chain Club
Have You Signed Up Yet?
Just like a subscription for a magazine, our Daisy Chain Club is the gift that keeps on giving – to yourself, the office, your nana or a friend. A fresh bouquet is delivered monthly, beautiful blooms to brighten anyone’s day. Don’t just take our word for it though.
Hear how the Daisy Chain Club has livened up these peoples’ days:
Nana Mac, Ilam
There’s a joke among the cousins, an enduring effort to be named Top Dog Grandchild with Nana Mac. 19-year-old uni student, Ben, has pulled out all the stops, prioritising granny over grog, and signing up for a six-month subscription of ‘Classic’ bouquets.
She’s reluctant to name Ben as her favourite. Afterall, what grandmother would do that?! But the smile on Nana Mac’s face says it all. Two months into the subscription and she’s already looking forward to her next delivery, curious about the blooms she’ll receive, and with her swoon-worthy collection of vintage vases at the ready!
Dan and Ellie, Merivale
In a gorgeously surprising twist, both Dan and Ellie signed up for the Daisy Chain Club, keen to surprise the other on their fourth wedding anniversary. Modern in so many ways, but traditionalists when it came to this particular anniversary, both preferred flowers over the modern fourth year gift of electrical appliances. It took a wee bit of tiptoeing on our part when we realised they’d both gifted the other a six-month subscription to flowers, but Dan and Ellie were delighted! Not only in tune with each other, but two bunches of seasonal flowers every month!
