Celebrate International Women’s Day with Leanne Lovell, Owner of Victoria Florists

Zonta Advocacy – Making a Difference for Women and Girls

She’s a friend, a mother, a florist and business owner. However, Leanne Lovell, owner of Victoria Florists, is also an advocate for women, actively striving to advance the rights of women and girls worldwide.

Leanne is the chairperson of advocacy for her local Zonta club, Christchurch-Canterbury. However, what does this mean? In short, Zonta is a global organisation of professionals working together to empower women through service and advocacy.

Advocacy refers to their organised efforts to promote and influence policies, laws and societal attitudes that advance the rights of women and girls worldwide.

Celebrate International Women’s Day | 8th March 2026

Given Zonta’s commitment to the empowerment of women, it’s fitting that Leanne’s chapter hosts an event on International Women’s Day. But what is International Women’s Day?!

Well, it’s a day steeped in history. First observed in 1909 in the USA, and inspired by labour movements and women’s suffrage campaigns, International Women’s Day was officially recognised by the United Nations in 1977. Held each year on 8th March, it’s both a celebration and a call to action, celebrating progress while reminding the world that gender equality is still a work in progress.

Let’s All Come Together to Celebrate

In collaboration with Forsyth Barr and Christchurch Golf Club, Leanne and her committee have been beavering behind the scenes to host an event that will celebrate the achievements of women. With drinks, nibbles and inspirational guest speakers, this is an event not to be missed.
